2009 Season

Impressive finally for Price

Rusty Price made his presents known at this year's California State Meet with some high level performances.  He started off with the hammer throwing 175'2 to take home the silver for MJC.

Then the next day he stated off with the Discus where he threw 163'5 to again take the silver under 100 degree heat conditions.

The Shot turned out to be a shootout with some very impressive throws from several athletes.  Dennis from Moorpark pulled out the win with a huge PR 60'7 to take the victory, as the next two places fought back and forth with some impressive throws as well.  Jacob from El Comino pulled out a 57'2 to go ahead of Rusty and take the silver as Rusty ended with a great toss of 56'6 to take the Bronze.

All in all, a very good showing by Rusty and a awesome season to match.  Congrats to Rusty for a great season and to his future at the next level.

Rusty Price Tripled up and heading to State

Congratulations to Rusty Price who had a great day at Nor-Cal Finals with some solid throws in the hammer, Discus and Shot to make it to the State Championships in all three events.  We also has some good performances out of our Freshman athletes with AJ and Kristin hitting PR’s in the hammer and just missing State to finish their season on a positive note…as for Andy Bower he finished with respectful throws in the Javelin and  hammer and just missing State in the Hammer as well.

On May 15th and 16th we are heading to San Mateo for the State Championships with Rusty who is the State leader in the Shot and Hammer and sitting number three in the State in the Discus.  He is looking very strong in all three events right now and if all goes well he could leave with some very impressive hardware.

MJC Throwers Looking Strong

On the men’s side this week showed some very impressive throws at the 51st Annual Mt. Sac Relays…one of the top Track and Field Meets in the Nation.  Rusty Price had a very strong day all around by started off the day with a huge 4 foot PR in the Hammer throwing 181’9 (55.41m) on his last throw to pull out the 1st place victory.  As he moves to the Shot Put he knows that this will be the toughest field he met this season and that he will need a big throw to place high.  He started off a little slow but as he started getting into his grove things started to click and he produced a season best of 54’6.75 (16.64m) to just miss out of the 2nd place spot by 5cm.  In the Discus he is proving to be very consistent throwing over 160.  A good meet that will take him into the post season very strong.

By far the best performance of the meet came from Andy Bower.  Andy produced a massive throw in the hammer throwing 163’2 (49.72m) to launch him from the 18th seed coming into the meet to number 4th in the overall placing and in the process achieving over a 17 foot PR…Awesome performance!!!

In the Shot Andy has been working on a few things to get back on track and showed a solid performance with a throw over 41 feet.

Kristin McClure came into this week with a strong performance from last week by producing some solid throws despite suffering the dreaded miss-mark debacle.  In the hammer she threw the hammer 38m and the official marked her down with a 28m throw.  Oh well, these things happen and in most cases you can’t do anything about it.  Overall she did very well.

With the addition of AJ, Ken and JB the team is looking very strong at this point as we start to move into the following weeks with Conference and Nor-Cals.

Pirates On A Roll

MJC Throwers are on a roll coming into the ladder part of the season with some huge personal best from this past weekend.  Our freshman Kristin McClure showed us how athletic she can be by throwing the Hammer 130’9 at the Ed Adams Invite in Salinas…that throw launched her into the MJC all-time record list that is very impressive.  She also posted a season best in the Shot with a throw of 40 foot.

On the men’s side we posted some very impressive marks all around.  AJ started off the day with a massive eight foot PR in the Hammer with a throw of 133’9 after having to stop throwing 5 weeks ago with a hamstring injury.  Rusty Price posted a 162’8 in the discus, 169’1 Hammer and winning the shot with a throw of 52’11…he is maintaining a great level of consistency coming into the end of the season.  Ken Whitney hit a PR in the Discus with a throw of 117’7 and in the Javelin with a toss of 141’10.

All in all a very productive week for the MJC Throwers group.   We are traveling to Mt. Sac this week so stay tuned to for updates.

MJC men continue their winning ways!

The Modesto Junior College Men’s Track and Field team was victorious for the 3rd straight week winning the Rotational meet at Sacramento City College. The team scored 218.5 points and was followed by Sacramento City College (176), Butte (68), Shasta (40.5), Siskiyous (34), and Yuba (7).  The team was led by phenomenal performances by Rusty Price (Pictured far right), David Dosanjh, and Anthony Mallory, each winning multiple events. Price continued his winning streaks in the Shot Put, Discus, and Hammer throw, while David Dosanjh found a new event to master. Dosanjh took a total of two jumps in the triple jump while also competing in the pole vault and surprisingly winning both. In the triple jump he leaped 46’1“. The pole vault was more impressive as he eclipsed the school record of 15’9“ held by Seb Cipponeri in 1991 with a jump of 15’10“. Anthony Mallory is also undefeated this season in both the 1500m and the 800m run and continued that streak today with times of 4:11.08 and 2:00.57 respectively.

Other event winners were Remington Blair in the 400m (48.58), Lamon Shears in the 400 intermediate hurdles (56.70), and the 4x400m relay team of Kirk Anderson, Terrance Green, Abdiel Martinez-Ramos, and Blair in a time of 3:17.60. Today’s win was a great team victory. This year’s team is definitely the most talented and focused group I’ve ever been associated with. Our depth in each of the events makes us a team that can have one of the most successful finishes in school history.
